- The Land Rover Defender 2024 adds a new flagship model known as the OCTA.
Land Rover has unveiled plans for its latest flagship model, set to take its place atop the diverse lineup of Defender vehicles. Dubbed the OCTA, derived from the octahedron, an eight-sided polyhedron, this new addition promises to be the epitome of toughness, capability, and luxury within the Defender range.
Under the hood, power will be delivered by a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. While exact power figures are yet to be confirmed, speculation suggests that the OCTA may inherit the potent 626-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 from the revamped Range Rover Sport SV. This powerhouse propels the SV Edition One from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, with a top speed reaching 180 mph.
Further enhancing its performance credentials, the OCTA will feature Land Rover’s innovative new suspension system borrowed from the SV model. Termed “6D Dynamics,” this system combines standard air springs with hydraulically cross-linked dampers, replacing traditional anti-roll bars. The result is a vehicle that maintains stability during aggressive maneuvers while significantly improving wheel travel and articulation for off-road adventures.
In line with its distinctiveness, the OCTA will sport a unique diamond-shaped badge, adorning key areas such as the steering wheel and side paneling. Land Rover highlights the rigorous development process undertaken for the OCTA, boasting testing in diverse terrains from the frigid landscapes of Sweden to the arid deserts of Dubai, and even the demanding tracks of the Nürburgring and Moab.
While specific details including pricing and specifications are yet to be unveiled, Land Rover encourages prospective buyers to engage with their dealers early. Exclusive previews are promised as part of the new global Defender Elements series, ensuring enthusiasts have the opportunity to experience the OCTA firsthand before its official debut later this year.
